I looked between the three of them, wondering if they were going to kill me or not. Apparently I reminded them of a...boy they knew? I don't know if I should be offended or grateful of it.
The boy who had spotted me made a feral growl. "I don't care who she reminds you of; just kill her off!"

"Seb makes a point," I said with a scowl, taking a step back. "I'm not killing her. You want to, you'll have to do it yourself."
Sebastian whirled around to look at the girl. "Can you do anything?" I could tell from the look in his eyes that he wanted her to be able to do something useful so she wouldn't get killed. But what would be useful enough that Anvl wouldn't kill her? Why did some little girl remind me of my little brother in the first place?

I blinked, my mouth opening and closing as I tried to come up with words. The boy waiting for me to say something was staring at me in an almost hopeful, pleading way. "I-I'm really good with a bow and arrow. A-and I can recognize edible plants and such."

I nodded slowly and turned around to face Anvl. "Admit it; she could come in handy. What if we run out of animals to kill and we have to eat plants? I don't know about you, but I don't know a damn thing about plants." I glanced over to Sahara, though I already knew that she didn't. She shrugged. Now I just had to hope he didn't know anything about plants either, because it was probably pretty obvious from earlier that I was good with a bow and arrow.

I scowled. I didn't think the skill was very handy at all, but I couldn't kill her now. I had a feeling that if I did, they'd be on me in a heartbeat. No, I couldn't risk my ass right now. "All right," I growled, "but if she becomes a burden..."
"I won't," Juniper interrupted me quickly. I glared at her, and she chewed on her bottom lip.

"See? She won't be - "
"Shut up, Seb, I hear something," I hissed, glancing around. We were in a small clearing, surrounded by trees. Sahara, you idiot. Now you're all easy prey.
But we weren't if I could find whatever that was before they popped out and tried to get us. "Stay here," I told the others. Then I shut my eyes and used my senses instead of my sight, creeping about the perimeter of the clearing. I paused and opened my eyes. Those leaves looked... freshly fallen. I looked back up, my hand immediately going to the hilt of my sword.
As soon as I'd done that, some boy with a dagger jumped out of the tree. He managed to run the blade across my arm, but I hardly felt it, bringing the sword up and swiftly running it across his neck. I'd admit it was sort of disturbing when his head flew off, but I sucked it up and checked his shirt. District 5.

I almost went after Sahara even once she told me to stay, but then I realized that if she thought there was someone nearby and I snuck up on her, she'd probably end up killing me. So I stayed put. Part of me wanted to applaud and tell her that her instincts were getting better when the guy jumped out, but he was sort of... gone. In seconds. And headless - which was pretty gruesome. And naturally, the guy part of me just wanted to kind of stare and go, "... Awesome" because, well, who doesn't think that at least a little bit when some guy gets decapitated? Well, at least in video games.

I watched, mouth agape in horror, as the District 5 boy was killed, so quickly that I barely had time to process it. I flinched as his head fell off from his neck, my stomach feeling sick from the sight. I gasped suddenly, and automatically ran to the girl with the sword's side. "You're bleeding!" I exclaimed, my eyes wide as I tentatively reached out to touch her bleeding arm.

As a reflex, my arm jerked itself away from her. I grimaced. "It's fine. I'll just need to find something to put on it later so it doesn't get infected."
Seb had come over, too, and he was also trying to touch my arm, which pulled away again. "Are you okay, Sahara?" he asked gently.
"I'm fine," I said hotly, glancing around. "Now we should go, before more unpleasant surprises descend from the treetops."

I watched the girl worriedly for awhile before deciding that I should just let her handle her injuries however she wanted to, so long as it didn't go untreated.
The large District 2 boy grunted agreement. "Yeah. Let's get a move on, shall we?"

I waited for the District 2 boy to walk ahead of me, but he gave me a look that made me scurry to keep up with the District 11 boy. Guess he wanted to take up the rear to keep an eye on me or something.
My stomach churned in guilt. I had lost Deen somehow, and I knew that I should be looking for him, but instead I had made other alliances and left him vulnerable. I feel horrible.

I glanced at the girl beside me. "Juniper, right?" I held my hand out to her. "I'm Sebastian. Or Seb. Doesn't really matter." God, but she was gorgeous... Really made you wonder what the hell the Capitol got out of all this. Besides entertainment. I wasn't particularly entertained by seeing pretty girls die, but maybe that was just me.

I glanced at the boy, looking closely at him now, and was surprised at how...well, good-looking he was. I felt a light blush rise to my cheeks as I gently took his hand, shaking it carefully. "Hi...Seb," I said shyly.

I was unsure why, but I felt intimidated by him. Not the way I felt with the other two in the group, but an intimidation that made me...shy, giddy even. It was a strange feeling. Maybe it was because he was being so unusually nice to me? I averted my gaze to my feet. "Looks like we'll be stuck with each other for awhile."

"There was a little girl in my District, and her name got called..but I couldn't bear to watch a young, innocent little girl walk into a huge battle like this knowing she wouldn't stand a chance. And since nobody else seemed like they were going to..I volunteered to take her place." I shrugged.

I couldn't help but smile a little. I doubted many people would do what she had. Some probably wouldn't even for their own family members, let alone girls they didn't know. "You're a good person," I told her, still smiling a bit. But then I frowned when I remembered the likelihood of all of us dying.
