I stared at her. What were the odds that I could kill them both? Probably small. Maybe it was best to have two allies. "You know, the more you protect him, the bigger the chance it'll be the two of you in the end," I said matter-of-factly, tucking my knife away.

I nodded slowly as Sebastian dropped out of the tree, clutching a bow in his hands. "I know. We swore that if either of us died, it'd be by the hands of each other. If it comes to that, it comes to that."
"I'm gonna go find something to eat," Seb muttered, walking off for more trees. He was doing that thing where he treaded so quietly you couldn't even hear him. Sometimes I wished I could do that.

"I'm surprised you'd be able to handle something like that," I commented. I had no siblings, so I had nobody to worry about being selected for the Games. I could only imagine what it was like for those two.

I took the moment of awkward silence to subtly look him over. Why not? I thought I deserved to check someone out at least one more time before I died. Short black hair, gray eyes, and a pretty fit body. It was pretty obvious that he could be an ass, but even I had to admit he was gorgeous, nonetheless.
"I got a rabbit," Sebastian announced suddenly, coming out of the trees behind me.
I blinked to calm myself down. Jesus Christ. I had not been expecting Seb to randomly come out of the trees any minute now.
"You do quick work," I remarked, pushing myself up off the ground.
He just shrugged. "Where to, boss?" he asked teasingly.

I shot Seb one of my infamous "oh, please" looks. "Do I look like the leader of this merry trio of misfits?"
He shrugged. "More than I do."
"Fine. Then I guess we go and find somewhere to camp later tonight... or someone to kill," I muttered. Fighting I could do. Killing I could do. Just not... people. Not human beings.

Well, at least there wasn't much difference between the Sahara I used to know and this one... Other than that this one didn't seem to have a qualm about taking someone's life. The worst part was that I apparently didn't know my sister well enough to be able to tell if she was bluffing or not.

I narrowed my eyes and almost said something... before I realized my saying something would do nothing but prove his point. So I kept my mouth shut, instead.
"So... you are?" I heard Seb say to the guy behind me. And then it hit me I'd never even gotten his name.

I heard a sudden rustle from nearby, and my head whipped around to search in the direction it had come from. I looked closely, and a pair of glowing blue-gray eyes looked back at me.

"We can all see you," I shouted. "Come out and face us."
A lithe figure holding a bow with a nocked arrow stepped out of the shadows. Her eyes were wide and scared, and she obviously knew that she didn't stand a chance against the three of them.
"Who are you?" I demanded to know.
"J-Juniper Rosewood, District 11," she said, attempting to make her voice firm.
She was a beautiful young creature, but I knew I'd have to kill her no matter what.

I scoffed at the sight of the small girl in front of us and sheathed my sword again. "Just kill her," I said, not really caring which of them - if either - listened.
But Seb shook his head and held a hand up. "We can't kill her," he said softly.
"Why not?" I asked flatly.
"... She reminds me of Spencer. Sort of."
I looked between Sebastian and... Juniper. He was right; with how gentle and cute she looked, she made me think of Spencer, too... even though he was a boy.
