"If she couldn't tell, apparently you didn't," I pointed out, wondering if I was doing the same thing. Did she know that I actually liked her? That she wasn't just another girl to kiss?

Rachel
"What did I say about you not having a say?" Alex snapped at Ty.
I wanted to defend Ty, but I didn't know what to say really. He didn't, not that much.
"I never knew. I pined over you, but you never seemed to notice. You kept saying how much you needed a friend, but I didn't want to be just friends. I needed something more. But you didn't pay attention."
"I care about you, Rachel," Alex repeated, his voice deathly quiet. "How could you never see it?"
"You're so...mysterious! I never would have known! I liked that quality about you for awhile, but when I couldn't even see your feelings through it..."

Harley
"Oh..." I winced as I tried to shift myself on the bed a bit. The pain medication couldn't get rid of it all.

Ty

I went silent, but because Rachel was talking, not because Alex had told me to.

Kaden

"I've always been advised to move more if it hurts," I remarked thoughtfully. "Then again, they're all sick bastards. Maybe you should do the opposite."

Harley
"Yeah, I planned on the opposite."

[Callie]

Kaden

I smiled faintly at her. "If I tell Holly about you, my dear, will she... strain herself in any way? Because if so, I should probably wait until she's healed."

Rachel
And suddenly cold lips were pressed against mine.
Alex's hands were cupping my cheeks as he almost forcefully kissed me. Startled, I barely kissed him back, my eyes still open.
His eyes opened, but his lips stayed on mine, and they blazed once, angered at my reaction. I felt my mouth forced open, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to kiss him back. I wasn't sure if I felt the same. A week ago, I might have. But now...with Ty...
Ty.

Harley
"Of course she would. It's better to wait. Tell her I had a family emergency. She'll understand."

[Callie]

Ty

I turned around, grimacing. "I'll see you around, Rachel. Thanks for the movie," I said, starting to head back to the House of Blues. I didn't wanna watch this.

Kaden

I nodded slowly. "Shall I go now, or do you still need some company?" I asked her with a small smile.

Harley
"...If you don't mind, I don't really want to be alone," my voice was a bit squeaky.

Rachel
"No!" I gasped, breaking away from Alex. "I'm sorry. I - I can't." I found myself chasing after Ty, grabbing his arm to stop him. "Don't...leave...me..." I breathed.

Ty

I turned around when she grabbed my arm, looking up to her. I bit my bottom lip slightly, then nodded slowly. "If you insist," I said with a small, faint smile.

Rachel
I wanted to grin widely, but I managed just a tiny smile.
"Hold on a second," Alex's voice came from nearby, and I turned to see that he was standing only a foot or so away from us. "You like her? And she...she likes you?" Alex's voice was deadly, his eyes blazing with fury as he restrained himself from acting on his anger.

[Callie]

Ty

"... Yes, I do like her. But I guess you should ask her whether she likes me or not. I don't read minds," I said cooly, though I was nervous as hell.

Rachel
Alex's gaze automatically turned on me, the anger toned down just a little. "Well?" he asked my dryly.
"I...I...Alex, you kept me waiting too long," I replied softly, my voice scarce.
"I see," he said curtly. He looked down at his shoes for a minute, and he looked so sorrowful that I felt a stab of pity for him. But then his head whipped back up, his eyes back on Ty. "Don't think just because she likes you that I'm going to give up," he told Ty coldly. "You can't spend every waking moment with her. I'll fight for her. She was mine."
Alex sounded so possessive that it was giving me chills. I was almost...terrified. I'd never seen this side of him.

Ty

"Good luck," I retorted. "She wasn't yours if you never made a move, and as far as I'm concerned, she's not even mine. She's her own person. You should respect that."

Rachel
I wanted to speak up on my own behalf. I did. But I couldn't find the words. I was too appalled by the situation I was even in right now.
"I'm not amused that I have to fight over her like I'm a child," Alex growled. "Can I stick with 'She liked me first, therefore I have rights to her'?"
"I am not a toy," I informed him dryly, basically echoing what Ty had said. "Nobody has rights to me, and I don't belong to anybody."
And then his eyes were on me again, pleading. It was like he was bi-polar, or had two different sides to him. He took my hands again, rubbing them gently. "You know we're meant to be together. We always were. I didn't want to 'make a move on you' because...I knew you could probably do better than me. I owed it to you to find somebody worthy of you. But I'm selfish. I want you. I need you."
"Alex...please," I mumbled. I don't understand why every girl dreams that two guys would fight over her. It's not exactly fun.

[Callie]

Ty

"Why do you have to put her through this?" I demanded. "Why do you have to suddenly come back, all 'oh, by the way, I love you'? Haven't you put her through enough shit already?"

Rachel
"She's not exactly telling me to leave, is she?" Alex countered. "She never did. She never told me that she couldn't handle being just my friend, or anything like that. You can't put this all on me."

[Callie]

Ty

"Of course not!" I exclaimed, grimacing at him. "She couldn't very well say anything if you only acted like she was a friend. That's like hanging out with one person for years on end, and then finally discovering, hey, guess what? You like them. You're afraid to tell them because if they say no, it could be the end of your fucking friendship. Maybe she didn't want to lose you. But you know what? She did anyways. You left her," I reminded him.

Rachel
"But I came back," Alex retorted. "I didn't want to leave her, but I had to. I couldn't...at first, I thought maybe it would be good to not tell her I was going. Then we could hopefully distance ourselves and I could stop...liking her. Plus I was rushed for time; goodbyes would be too painstakingly long." Alex paused. "Maybe I do know that she should move on. I was expecting to come back here and find her waiting for me with open arms, but..."
I squeezed his hand very lightly, holding back a grimace. "I'm sorry," I apologized. "I want to believe everything your saying...I do...but I don't know if I can."

I took a few steps back. "Well, I'll just be over here while you guys work everything out," I murmured. I really didn't want to stick around so close, and I didn't want to argue about this. I wanted... well, I sure as hell didn't want Rachel to choose him and get her heart broken all over again, but if she chose me, and I had to leave to tour, wouldn't I just be doing the same thing?

Rachel
Alex's eyes burned with sorrow. "Why not?"
"You've never acted this way before, about me. It's hard to believe that you all of a sudden feel this way," I explained.
"Do you...do you want me to leave?" he whispered.
I looked down at my feet nervously. "I'm not sure," I murmured. "Things are so complicated with you here...but they're painful when you're not."
Alex thought about this, then chuckled humorlessly to himself. "It's funny because I'm not even supposed to fall in love with humans. I should just leave you alone."
"I don't think I want that. But...things were just starting to get normal in my life. Better. I was miserable, delusional, without you. Then Ty came and...he just lifted my spirits. Made me feel much happier."
"I would thank him, but I hate him for taking you from me," Alex said bitterly.
My eyebrows raised delicately. "Do we have to go over the fact that I'm not an object you can own?"
Alex shook his head, staying silent. "I'll go," he whispered. "But I won't leave town just yet. I'll...give you time to think. About what you want. I'll be staying at the motel nearest your house when you want to find me." Alex released my hands, and he was about to turn around when I stopped him.
"I will meet you there eventually," I assured him quietly, and I leaned forward and pressed my lips to his cold cheek gently.
Alex smiled a little, then stuffed his hands in his pockets and slouched off. I watched him walk away before turning back to Ty, trying to hide my pained expression.

"Of course," I said with a nod. "It's understandable. I assume being taken hostage and tortured isn't exactly enjoyable." I narrowed my eyes slightly, wondering how they could do such a thing... to a woman! I could understand if it were a man, but women were... Women were special. Precious. They were to be cherished, loved, occasionally used if they were stupid enough to fall for that, but not tortured.

Ty

"Look," I started, "if you need some time to think things over, I can understand. The whole... I just... I wouldn't want you to throw anything you had - or have - with him away for me. You hardly know me, and for all we know, I might still have to leave. I don't want to hurt you, Rachel," I rambled, looking down at the ground.

Rachel
My eyes spilled over with the tears I'd been holding back since Alex had arrived. I covered my face with my hands, slowly sitting myself down on the sidewalk. "I...I don't..." I tried to say, but I stopped when I couldn't even figure out what I was trying to say."

Harley
I stared ahead, having barely heard him. This was going to take a very, very long time to get over, if I ever did.

[Callie]

Ty

When she didn't seem like she could finish her sentence, I continued. "I understand if you still feel something for him. I know what's that like, trying to be with someone else even if you still care for that other person, and it never ends well. I'm not stupid enough to think that I have any sort of claim over you; this is your choice. I just want you to know that... no matter what you choose, I'll do my best to understand. And if you decide you want to be with Alex, I'd like to remain friends, if we can. I'd also like for this to not sound like a really bad, cliche, break-up scene, but I think I'm failing." I let out a weak laugh.

Kaden

I glanced over to her, and heaved a sigh. "Would you like to hear a story, my dear?" I asked her quietly. Maybe hearing about someone else's misery would make her forget about her own, at least for a little while.

I looked back at him. "..Okay."

I tried to laugh too, but I sounded a bit more like a cat being strangled. "I didn't even know we were dating really," I said, pausing. "I don't know what to do. I don't want to be the stupid girl in a movie that goes for the rebel goth boy, thinking that she can make him a better person. But I also don't want to be the girl that settles for the second guy so that everybody thinks he's just a rebound," I tried to explain, wiping my eyes.
