This roleplay will be based on the series of books called "The Forbidden Game", written by L J Smith. As I'm changing a lot of details about the books, I don't think you need to have read them to understand how to play this RP.
Introduction
A world exists called The Shadow World. This world is made up of creatures known as Shadow Men, who are, to quote from the first book of the trilogy, "like the sandman, only they bring you nightmares. They'll bring to life your darkest fantasies and make you confess your most secret fears." The Shadow Men are evil, inhumane old spirits who delight in causing mischief and creating havoc amongst humans. They love to play games with humans and will often abduct them, challenge them to a game that the human can't possibly win and then take the human to the Shadow World to be theirs eternally. Shadow Men are created when someone carves their name onto a Runestave (a kind of long stick, Runes being the Norse Alphabet; I'll explain those in a bit), and they can only die when their name is cut out of the Runestave. Because of their evil and twisted nature, all Shadow Men eventually become horrifying looking monsters, usually with deformities. However, when they are first created and when they are young, they are impossibly beautiful and alluring. It is only when they grow older that their evil nature begins to show itself on the outside as well. Using the Runes, they can create and manipulate almost anything they want to, and have almost unlimited powers.
Runes
These are the Runes that may be used throughout the roleplay.
If a Shadow Man uses the Runes, they can just sketch them in the air and they will work. If a human wants to use the Runes, they must scratch the Rune into something solid (like wood; a door or a wall or something) and give some of their blood to it in order to invoke the Rune's magic, unless they are in the Shadow World; if this is so, they can also just sketch the runes in the air.
Rules
- Obviously, all Shadow Men are male.
- Humans may be whatever gender you like.
- If your charri is a Shadow Man, please make sure its okay with a human charri's owner if you want your Shadow Man to take their human to the Shadow World.
- Shadow Men may only be beautiful if they are younger than 5,000. Any Shadow Men older than 5,000 start to get their horrifying appearance. Any Shadow Men older than 10,000 MUST look like a monster.
- If you can, try to make your Shadow Man's picture have white hair, as the Shadow Men live in a world of ice.
- Anime pictures are preferred for Shadow Men as they are fantasy-type creatures. Any kind of picture is fine for humans.
- When travelling between the Shadow World and the human world, the Rune Uruz must be used.
- If you play a human, you can decide whether they know about the Shadow World or not.
General Rules
- Third-person is preferred, but you can use first if you'd rather.
- No godmodding
- No Mary-sues.
- You can have a mean charri (obviously, as the Shadow Men generally aren't nice), but please don't be mean to other roleplayers yourself.
- As the Shadow Men are only males, I'd like for most of the humans to be female. But please don't let that stop you from creating a male human.
- If you have to leave the roleplay for a while for any reason and miss the posts, please try and read up on what you've missed before asking for recaps. Sometimes it's very hard to summarise everything that's happened whilst a person has been absent, and I'd prefer people to at least attempt reading the old posts before asking for a recap.
- If you wish to leave the roleplay altogether, please let me know either in the roleplay itself or via PM.
Character form
I think that's everything; let me know if you have any questions. I'll edit my post later with my characters.

Runes
These are the Runes that may be used throughout the roleplay.
Dagaz Dagaz looks like an hourglass on its side. It is the Rune of day or dawn, and represents times like twilight or dusk when things are changing. It acts like a catalyst and operates between light and darkness.
Thurisaz Thurisaz looks like a stick with a triangle attatched to the side (sort of represents a thorn), and is the Rune of the giant. This rune can be used to put someone to sleep or make them go blind.
Gebo Gebo looks like a large letter X. It represents a gift, and can also be used to mean a sacrifice or death.
Isa Isa looks like a large letter I. It is the Rune of ice. Obviously, it can be used to create ice
Kenaz Kenaz looks like the "less than" sign that is used in mathematics. It is the Rune of fire or a torch. Obviously, it can be used to create fire.
Raidho Raidho looks like an R with angles instead of curves, and is the Rune of riding or journeying. It is used for protection whilst travelling between worlds.
Uruz Uruz looks like an upside down letter U with angles rather than curves. It is the Rune of Aurock, an extinct wild ox. This rune pierces the veil between worlds, allowing people to pass through.
Nauthiz Nauthiz looks like a letter X tipped on its side, so it is leaning backwards and to the left, with one stroke longer than the other. It is the Rune of constraint or containment.

Name: Gabriel
Age: 1,200 years old
Gender: Male
Picture:
But without the wings. xD
Shadow Man/Human?: Shadow Man
Bio: Gabriel, one of the youngest Shadow Men, has always been curious about the humans. He likes to invite them to play a game, mostly girls. He does this by using his seductive charm to get them to buy a game. Once the thing is opened and the promise is spoken, Gabriel is free to take whoever said the words and force them to face their worst nightmares. But Gabriel is fair - if they pass, he'll let them go. Not that they ever do. He'll always give a chance, but most are either too stupid or scared out of their minds to figure it out. Gabriel, however, is still much different from his ancient ancestors. If they want something, they'll kill to get it. He prefers not to kill, but Gabriel would also kill if there was something he wanted enough.
Personality: Ruthless, cold, demanding, fair, manipulative, seductive, dangerous, patient, clever, powerful.
Other: I'm pretty much cloning Julian from the books to make him. If I happen to be that talented.

Name: Kata Westerfeld
Age: 17 years old
Gender: Female
Picture:
Shadow Man/Human?: Human
Bio: Kata's parents used to argue all the time, until one day, her dad just blew up. He beat Kata to a pulp when she was twelve, and she had to go to the emergency room. Then he left, never to be seen or heard from again. Shortly after Kata recovered, her mom committed suicide, and Kata never really knew why. She always assumed it was because her dad left, and her mom still loved him. After that, Kata moved in with her grandmother, where she learned about the Shadow Men. She was never really scared of them, simply because Kata is rarely scared of anything. Not after what happened with her dad. She took karate and kung-fu until she'd mastered both, but she only uses them in self-defense, and Kata can constantly be seen using a punching bag or playing some sort of sport. She's also known by her friends, Devantae, Natalia, Summer, Michael, and Christian, for her slightly skewed sense of humor. However, Juliette is a different story... she and Kata don't exactly... get along, which is kind of a pain for Natalia, since they're her best friends out of the group, but... that's just how it goes.
Personality: Violent, easygoing, humorous, fighter, strong, intelligent, sarcastic, impatient, brave.
Other: She's pretty much a clone of Dee from the books...

Name: Devantae Richardson
Age: 18 years old
Gender: Male
Picture:
Shadow Man/Human?: Human
Bio: Devantae's parents, unlike Kata's, have always gotten along perfectly well. Sometimes, too well, if you ask him. Devantae's that guy that all the other guys want to be, head of the football team, dating the most gorgeous girl in school and all that. But unlike some stereotypical jocks, Devantae's actually a nice guy, and fun to be around. The most gorgeous girl in the school, you ask? Natalia Coffey, of course. All the other guys, though, know she's off-limits, since she and Devantae have been dating since eighth grade - four years. And Devantae's actually loved her ever since he first saw her. Not that he'd ever let her know that; Dev's not too serious most of the time, but he really is a good guy. Devantae and Natalia have been hanging out with the same crowd for ages, though - since second grade, actually. Christian, Kata, themselves, Summer, Michael and Juliette, Juliette being the newest addition to their group when she moved near them back when they were all in fifth grade.
Personality: Joking, friendly, laid-back, outgoing, caring, gentle, fierce, firm, protective, loyal, honest.
Other: Sometimes he's called Dev. Clone of Tom from the books.
Age: 18 years old
Gender: Male

Name: Christian Masters
Age: 17 years old
Gender: Male
Picture:
Shadow Man/Human?: Human
Bio: Christian's mom left he and his dad shortly after she gave birth to him and named him. Then she just took off. He misses her, but at the same time, he just... he hates her. So much. For leaving him alone with his father. His dad never has any time to look after him, and Christian knows how to take care of himself by now, which he does. He's usually out with the others, too: Devantae, Kata, Juliette, Michael, Summer, and Natalia. His friends.
Personality: Sarcastic, joking, flirty, outgoing, friendly, protective, energetic, distractable, blunt.
Other: None.

Name: Maxwell "Max" Maverick
Age: 18 years old
Gender: Male
Picture:
Shadow Man/Human?: Human
Bio: Max's parents are happily married and blah blah blah. He has two little sisters, and he's recently moved out of that house. Max sort of lives with his uncle. As in, if he's actually home and not at one of his friends' houses or clubbing, he's there. Max pays rent to stay there. One problem, though. His uncle is partially insane. He keeps going on and on about these Shadow Men that he escaped from years ago, but he won't tell anyone when, where, or what they were like, what they did to him. He just tells Max to watch out for them. They watch your every move, just waiting for a chance to torture you to insanity. He says he's lucky he's still sane, though no one believes him. Some nights he's gotten so bad that Max had to leave, leaving his uncle alone with his "Shadow Men".
Personality: Friendly, loyal, outgoing, playful, joking, sarcastic, greedy, fighter, short tempered.
Other: Call him Max.
