I just nodded, glancing to the side as Gabe popped up. "Hey," he said with a smile, wedging himself in between Elijah and myself. I frowned slightly, but tried not to let it show.
"Morning," I murmured.
"Sleep well? No frogs in your nightmares, I trust?" Damian asked in a pleasant tone, taking a bite of his toast.
Gabe just narrowed his eyes at him and didn't answer.

"Yeah, if he liked any guy that way, we all know it'd be Cooper," I piped up, smirking.
"Exactly," Damian said and nodded.
Cooper grimaced. "Does anyone else feel awkward?"

"What's that?" Damian asked, sounding bored.
"Your dad."
He went still for a moment before standing up without another word and walking off furiously. Maybe I'd really hit a nerve?
Avery shot me a look that clearly said she was agitated with me. "That was too far, Gabe," she said before getting up and walking off after him. Ouch.

Keeping my mouth shut this time was easy. I didn't talk a lot otherwise, I wasn't gonna break the silence after that awkward moment.
"You're so mature," Angel said to Gabe. She shot him a annoyed look before looking at the direction Damian had went. She looked just as confused as I was.

"Well," I said, standing, "I'll go be an asshole elsewhere."

"Much appreciated," I said under my breath when I was sure he couldn't hear me.
Damian
"Damian!" came Avery's voice from not far away. I stopped; she was running and crashed into me. I managed to catch her before she fell over, then dropped my hands and stared at her blankly. "I'm so sorry" was all she said.
"You don't need to apologize. It was Gabe."
"I'm sorry about him, too."
I smiled faintly at her, wondering if she could tell it was fake. "I was pushing him."
"Not enough for that, you weren't," she said, and hugged me.
"I just... I didn't want that to be brought up around here. I wanted to... be normal. Guess that doesn't happen often around here, though."
Avery pulled away and frowned. "Well, obviously not. I mean, we all have our own freaky power around here. Not exactly normal."

I whirled around to see Angel, then blushed slightly and turned back around. I didn't want her hearing about my issues. Hell, I didn't want Avery about my issues, but I'd known her for ages, and apparently my subconscious had decided that was okay.
