I smiled faintly. "That sounds... extremely boring, actually. How did you live? I can't talk to people older than me. They get on my nerves." This last bit was said in a whisper, and I pressed a finger to my lips as if it were some important secret.

I raised an eyebrow at her but didn't comment about it. "I focused more on my work than my social life. Though yes, it was extremely boring."

[Callie]

Chastity

"I guess I focused more on..." Ben. "neither, really," I said with a shrug, ignoring my quickening heartbeat when I merely thought his name. What I said was true enough, though. Up until I met Ben, I'd focused mainly on not getting caught while I stole necessities. When we'd "joined forces", Ben had some money, and we lived modestly until they found him.

"I feel like there's much more than what you just told me," I commented, looking at her curiously.

[Callie]

"Well, there's not," I snapped, then scowled to myself. "Sorry, I didn't... It's a... touchy subject." Somehow, everything was a touchy subject because there were so many things that made me think of him. Part of me dared to hope that he was alive, but the other, more logical part told me I was wishing on deaf stars.

I shook my head. "Nah, I get it. Sorry, I won't be so nosy anymore."

"Thank you," I murmured. "You're being... a lot more kind than I deserve."

"Everybody deserves kindness," I told her firmly.

[Callie]

Chastity

I laughed. "I won't try to sway your opinion on that one. Either way, if everyone deserves kindness, they don't always get it. Sometimes people get fed up with them," I pointed out.

Nicholas

I yawned slowly and got out of bed, changing into some clothes that weren't pajamas, then headed out onto the deck. I could see Chass near the railiing, talking to some guy that obviously wasn't third class. I smirked slightly. Wasn't she a bona fide social butterfly?

I nodded. "It's sad that our world will always have hate."

I finished my tea, but didn't bother finishing the little bit of food left on my plate. "I'm going out to the deck to get some fresh air," I told my parents, voice coming out a bit cold.
My mother nodded, disregarding my tone. "Just remember what we told you, dear."
I nodded too, but when I turned around and walked away, I scowled at her. I headed up to the deck, heart leaping when I saw Nicholas up there. You can't talk to him. You're not allowed. Just get some air and leave. I took a deep breath, then moved to an empty spot by the railing, away from other people. I looked out at the horizon in awe.

"And war," I added bitterly.

Nicholas

I looked away from Chass and the random guy, seeing Juliet over by the railing. I smiled broadly, then told myself to shrink it before walking over to her. I tapped her on the shoulder, but couldn't help the smile. "Hey."

"And tragedies, and natural disasters, and so on."

Juliet
I swallowed, knowing it was him, "Hello," I murmured, not turning around to look at him.

[Callie]

Chastity

I let out a small chuckle and shook my head. "The world's a mess."

Nicholas

"Sleep well?" I asked, standing beside her and resting my elbows on the rail, staring out over the ocean.

Tom
"It's almost a displeasure to live here," I muttered.

Juliet
"I suppose," I whispered, looking down at my folded hands on the railing. Should I tell him I have to go? Should I just leave?

[Callie]

Chastity

I just smiled and looked back to the dolphins. There were good silences and there were weird, awkward silences. This was one of the latter... to me, at least.

Nicholas

I tilted my head and looked at her. "You're being a lot... quieter today," I remarked.

Tom
I heard the trumpet blow for the second class passengers to eat, and I straightened up. "Well, I'll be seeing you, miss." I tipped my hat to her before leaving.

Juliet
I exhaled slowly, quietly, avoiding eye contact with him. "I can't talk to you."

[Callie]

Chastity

I smiled a bit and waved, as well. "Bye, Tom."

Nicholas

I shot her a baffled look. "What do you mean?"

Juliet
"We can't be seen together. My parents..." I wished I had a better excuse, but really I had to just tell him the truth. "I told them what we did last night, and they don't want me around you. They threatened me."

[Callie]

Nicholas

My face fell, but I covered it up with a blank look. "Of course, my lady. I understand," I said simply before bowing and walking off. I felt as if I'd been slapped in the face, even though I knew she wasn't doing it on purpose. Part of me felt horrible for rubbing the fact she was superior in her face, but the other part sounded more like something Chastity would say. Forget them all. It didn't matter anyway. She couldn't talk to me. I could deal with that. So why did it hurt so much?

I didn't want him to walk away. He was hurt, or at least a tad upset, and it made me mad that it was all because of some stupid society rule. It was ridiculous. Why should they dictate who I can and cannot talk to? "Hey, wait," I called to him, hoping he would hear me.

[Callie]

Nicholas

I didn't want to stop. I didn't want to turn around, or look back, or think for even a second that things might be okay. But I did. And I turned around, walked briskly over to her, and took her face gently into my hands. I hovered there only for a split second before I pressed my mouth against hers, just wanting to see what it was like.

Juliet
I almost pushed him away, I was so startled. My body went rigid with terror, not wanting anybody to see us. I couldn't be found out. I couldn't...Oh well. My eyes fluttered closed, and I kissed him back, placing my hands on his shoulders.

[Callie]

Nicholas

After I realized what I'd done, what I was doing, I jerked away and shook my head. Damn it. I stepped back and tried to apologize, tried to... find something to say and do other than just stand there like an idiot! But I couldn't.

Juliet
I stared at him for a long while, and then I looked down away, face turning a delicate shade of pink. "I..." I tried to say, but I honestly had no words.

[Callie]

Nicholas

"I'm sorry. I had to know..." I shook my head. "I should go." Without giving her time to say anything, I whirled around and walked off.

Juliet
"Wh...Where do you think you're going?!" I shouted after him, causing a few people to turn their heads and look at me. I stopped my face from flushing and walked after to, whisper-shouting to him all the while. "You don't just...You don't just kiss somebody and then leave them!"

Nicholas

I swung back around to face her with wide eyes. "Shh!" I hushed her, glancing around at the people looking at us. "You can't even been seen talking to me, remember? My kissing you was stupid. It won't happen again," I assured her harshly.

Juliet
I stepped back, stunned. "I...I..." My eyes grew wide, and I was at a loss for words. "But I...I want it to happen again." My voice was quiet, I barely heard myself.

[Callie]

Nicholas

I just stood there, trying to think of something to say. So she couldn't talk to me, but she wanted to kiss me? Jesus Christ, were women confusing or what? I frowned slightly at her. "Then explain to me how that's gonna work if we can't even talk to each other."

"We don't get caught," I whispered, though I knew how hard it would be to avoid the eyes of every first class passenger on the ship.
