Your kind is called Spiritwalkers. They connect the world of the dead with the world of the living; not many people believe you're real.
Until one young spiritwalker ruins everything.
She died for a day and then came back, fully alive. She revealed everything you wanted the world not to know. Because of her, your kind is getting killed off by either (A) The Government or (B) Murderers, since they don't want you to connect with their victims and bust them for their crimes.
When we once lived in peace, it's now full-blown war.
Races:
Humans.

Spiritwalkers
SWs are the bridge between dead and alive. Technically speaking, these people can die and come back when they want to. But if their spirit is away from their body for a week, the small seam with the spirit and body is ripped for good and they can't go back. It takes a lot of force to move a SW's body when they're not in it.
They are created when one of their parents and/or realtives dies at the exact moment when they are born.
Ghosts
Dead humans/spiritwalkers. Enough said. Can't be seen by living people, only when SWs are in spirit form too.

Humans don't just automatically know when they see a spiritwalker. There's no way to tell.
