So I am definitely not a writer so that's why my story sucks. I didn't want to do a lovey-dovey story cause that's not really my style. It's really bad so don't judge. At least I actually wrote it, right?!
February 14th, 2011. Valentine’s Day. Andrew was taking a stroll in Central Park- alone. Well, not alone if you count his Starbucks coffee in his hand. Valentine’s Day was definitely not his favorite holiday, though it once was. Andrew passed by couples holding hands. He finally got over Celine. Well, he thought he had. It’s been 2 years after their break up. Two of the worst years of his life.
Andrew still remembers that moment. That moment when Celine looked into his eyes and said the worst words he’s ever heard: “This isn’t going to work.” He sat there in disbelief. That was not supposed to happen. They were meant to be together forever! He remembers ever single detail from that night. The pain in Celine’s eyes, the strength in her voice, the way she turned away when he tried to reason with her. And yet, she never changed her mind.
They had been dating for a year and a half. It had been the best time in Andrew’s life. They were perfect for each other in his eyes. She worked for the New York Times and he worked at a local news station. Over the time they were together, Andrew fell in love. He fell hard. He knew that Celine was who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
After Celine said those words, Andrew could not come up with something to say. He tried everything, but all Celine stood by her words. “I don’t feel anything, anymore. No passion, no love, no excitement. It’s like we do this for the sake of doing it, not because we want to. I can’t live like this anymore, Andrew. I can’t!” Celine said, her voice strong, but weak. Andrew remembers the way she wiped her eyes and turned to him once more. “I loved you, Andrew. It wasn’t your fault at all. We just…we just weren’t meant to be,” Celine said carefully and calmly. She tucked a strand of hair behind his ear. The final words echoed in his head. “Goodbye, Andrew,” Celine whispered. And then she was gone. Forever.
Andrew sat down on a bench and thought about those words for the millionth time. He decided to try and forget about them and just watch the people pass. They all looked the same, all bundled up in their winter attire. One person stood out to him. She had long brown hair, and she was wearing a bright red coat with matching ear muffs. Celine. Andrew could not take his eyes off her as she walked towards him. She didn’t see him, though. He eyes were on someone else- a different man. They were holding hands and talking to each other.
As she passed by Andrew, they made eye contact for a split second. Andrew noticed a diamond ring on her hand. He smiled to himself, and got up to leave. He started to walk in the opposite direction, his back turned to Celine. He did not notice Celine turning her head around at him with a shocked look. He did not hear the words from her fiancé’s mouth, “Are you alright?” He did not hear her reply, “Yea…I just thought I saw someone… never mind.”
All Andrew could do is smile. He felt no pain when they made that quick eye contact. He felt happy for her, happy that she found someone to spend the rest of her life with. And though Andrew was still alone on this Valentine’s Day, he felt alright because he knew he finally got over Celine, and that he was ready to start again.
