Turned out Mom was a golddigger, and she was just marrying guys, then killing them so she got their money. I managed to hide what I knew until she killed the next one, and then I confronted her about it." I trailed off at this bit; near-death experiences weren't something I liked to relive, and I could remember perfectly well how scary Mom had been that day.
